Orchid and Biodiversity Park
Kaziranga Orchid Biodiversity Park is one of the perfect places in area to know local culture and cuisine. The peaceful aura, tranquil surroundings and teaching about local fauna brings you an opportunity to take a deep dive. Orchid Biodiversity Park is a must visit place. This park came into existence in the year of 2015 and is an abode of largest collections of orchids in all across India. There are approx 600 species of orchids in the park’s greenhouse. These wonderful and eye soothing flowers come from all over north east India and includes the state flowers of Assam and Sikkim.
You will also see some rare verities of orchid inside the green house, so go there taking proper time make rounds among the flowers to check them all out. Please note that touching the flowers are not allowed. Just feel and enjoy eye soothing experience.
If talk about variety of orchids in the world it is around 35000 of this 1314 varieties found in India. Presently, there are 850 varieties of orchids found in north eastern part of India with 402 varieties in Assam state.
Kaziranga Orchid and Biodiversity Park sprawl over an area of 16 bigha. It houses 500 species of orchids, 200 varieties of paddy, medicinal plants which are fast becoming extinct, several types of local flowers and fruits. Among the other attractions it has also photo gallery of 500 orchids, a green house, lakes with boating and angling facilities and small tree houses.
This national park houses around 600 species of wild orchids which is the collection collected from across the north east region of the state. These orchids are placed in a wild state so that the environment provided seems very close to nature.
Two basic ideas behind establishment of Kaziranga National Orchid and Bio-Diversity Park are:
1. The main aim is to preserve these wild varieties of orchids and create mass awareness among general public about the importance of these orchids. This park would be a showcase to fact that Assam and other parts of north eastern is a hot spot for rare biodiversity. Now, two species of orchids- Dendrobium and Hearia unmola are now extinct.
2. To educate general public and create mass awareness and impart knowledge as much as possible.
This park in the vicinity of the Kaziranga National Park is the evidence that North East India is a hub to very rare bio-diversities and should be protected at large scale.
In addition, Orchid Park houses a very nice museum, medicinal plant garden with a product outlet centre, garden for native flowers and fruits, fishery for native fish species, cactus species and several varieties of bamboo and cane.
